Russia ready to implement readmission deal

The Russian Migration Service will in the course of the year sign all remaining protocols adhering to the readmission agreement with the European Union.

The signing of the documents are part of the Russian bid for a visa-free regime with the EU, the Director of the Migration Service Konstantin Romodanovsky told journalists Prime-Tass.ru reports.

In 2010, a total of nine protocols were signed with various EU member states. In the course of 2011, all remaining protocols will be signed, Romodanovsky highlighted.

The readmission agreement, which regulates the handling of illegal migrants, was originally signed on 14 February 2007 together with a visa facilitation agreement. The agreement did however include a three year grace period, during which it will only apply to Russian nationals and citizens of states with which Russia has signed similar agreements.
