The two jack-up rigs belonging to Arktikmorneftegazrazvedka (AMNGR), “Kolskaya” and “Murmanskaya” are both lying idle in port, Murmansk Television reports. The first rig was hired by a foreign company to work in the North Sea, but on order from the Federal Property Management Agency, the contract was canceled. “Kolskaya” is now at port in Murmansk, and is costing AMNGR 2500 EUR a day in maintenance. The other rig, “Murmanskaya”, is at port in Singapore. It was hired out to a Norwegian company which breached the contract before its term ended out of fear that the court would force the rig back to base already in February. As a result of the standstill, AMNGR loses 83 billion rubles in incomes every month.
General Director of AMNGR Oleg Mnatsakanyan points out that the company will not go bankrupt, since it is a so-called strategic federal enterprise. There will neither be any mass dismissals of workers. For the company to be able keep highly qualified specialists, part of the staff will be transferred to shorter work weeks and two thirds salary.
Arktikmorneftegazrazvedka’s fate is now in the hands of the Federal Property Management Agency, who can give permission to hire out the rigs. An application was sent months ago, but so far AMNGR has not heard a word from Moscow.
