8th of May is every year celebrated as the Victory day in Norway. In the Norwegian border town of Kirkenes people celebrated the memory of the people who fought in World War II in front of the Russian soldier monument. This monument is the only of its kind in a NATO-country, and is to honor the Soviet Red Army’s efforts in northern Norway during WW2.

Present at the marking were the Norwegian Minister of Research and Higher Education, Tora Aasland, together with vice mayor of Sør-Varanger Municipality, Ole Gabrielsen and the Russian Consul in Kirkenes Igor Bulay.
